Apple Picking '14 (2 of 31)

Apple season is here! I’m so excited. I love all the pastries and all those good yummy things with apples, that are very comforting and perfect to celebrate Fall. We went apple picking with the family. Picked three different varieties, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Jonagold. What’s your favorite kind? I’m so looking forward to baking with apples! Stay tunes for some great recipes.

Today, I would like to share with you a very easy and tasty Homemade Apple and Peach Juice recipe.

Very versatile as well. The combinations of fruits and berries for the juice are endless. In summer time we pick berries and freeze them, – perfect for smoothies and juices. Apples and pears go good together. Apricot Juice is very good. Right now, we have lots of apples, peaches, plums, and I thought, why not try putting these together? Well, we really liked the outcome. The juice turned out very good. It is very good when hot (you can drink it as a tea), as well as chilled. Sugar is optional, as the fruits are naturally very sweet, so its up to your taste buds.

Ingredients:

  • 14 cups water
  • 4-5 apples, sliced
  • 4-5 peaches or nectarines, sliced
  • 3 plums, pitted, cut in half
  • 1/2 cup organic sugar

Again, you can use this method and put together fruits and berries of your choice. There is no right or wrong.

In a large pot boil water. Add sugar (if using), and then add your fruits. Bring to boil, and let simmer 5-7 minutes. And its ready! How easy is that? This is a good time to try it to see if the juice is sweet enough for you.

Its better to make this juice ahead of time to allow fruits to let all their juices out. After 5-10 hours of chilling, the fruits will be soft and transparent, and I don’t like them this way, so I strain my juice. This homemade juice stays fresh in the refrigerator for up to a week.
