Hello there,
My name is Vera.
Welcome to my food blog.
I’m a wife, and a busy mom of three girls, and I LOVE to cook! Meet my family…
My husband of 14 years Vadim, who loves food, and isn’t picky eater, which makes it easier for me to experiment and not being worried that the food is not going to be eaten 😉 My three daughters, who love food, but not always confident to try new things (It took me a while to convince them that Green Smoothies are good. Now they love green smoothies!)
I cook with fresh ingredients from scratch (most of the time, ’cause I do too need some shortcuts once in a while 🙂 I do indeed like to simplify recipes, and substitute not very healthy ingredients with healthier ones whenever possible. The recipes that I share are quick and easy, and straight forward, which gives the opportunity to enjoy good fresh meals not just on special occasions, but on everyday basis. That’s what I do!
Besides my daily mission of feeding my family fresh healthy food, I enjoy gardening, and I absolutely love to entertain, and have people over at our house. I guess it has something to do with Eastern European culture background (did I mention that I’m from Ukraine?). Its some sort of custom, when you meet people, you invite them to your house; you prepare the best food, and you eat together.
I would usually start preparing days in advance just to throw a birthday party or just a family or friends get together.
The biggest reward and compliment for me is when people devour the food and ask for recipes.
The idea of blogging came to me when my daughters started to show interest in cooking.
My recipe journal is written in Russian cursive and has a lot of corrections. I didn’t think that anybody would ever be able to make sense of what’s going on in it, let alone try cooking with those recipes, which, as the matter of fact, are great recipes! Some of them are from my mom’s journal, some are my grandma’s recipes, some recipes are shared by my friends, and are very accurate, tried, loved and fool proof. So, I decided to make online journal where I’d be sharing a collection of my family’s favorite recipes with step by step picture tutorials. I hope that my girls will enjoy my recipes and the food that they love so much for many years to come. I hope that step by step instructions will allow to cook with ease for any inexperienced beginner.

Welcome, Elaine. I hope you’ll find my recipes interesting, and maybe try cooking something? Your recipe of “balls of pure goodness” really caught my attention. I happen to have all the ingredients too. 😉
Wonderful, I hope you like them ☺️
Hi Vera, I saw your comment on another blog about how your family makes eggplant and tomato appetizers with the garlic, mayo and cream cheese spread. I thought maybe you had a post here on it:) Can you please let me know if you bake all the ingredients together or just the eggplant? Thank you, Anna
Hi Anna. Thank you for stopping by. I don’t have that eggplant recipe posted yet, but yes, you roast eggplant only, let it cool , than put mayo/cream cheese/garlic spread, and tomato on top, garnish with fresh parsley or dill. I’ll try to post the recipe soon.
Thank you! I actually baked the tomato too:-) They were so delicious! The cream cheese in the spread is sooo good! My husband loved them! I baked the eggplant about halfway, and then added the spread and tomato on top and baked for another 10 min. Next time I will probably bake the tomato more fully. Love this recipe!
Oh how nice! I haven’t tried baking the tomato, but it sounds so good. I will have to give it a try sometime 😉 that’s how the best recipes are born. Anna, you’re awesome!
