Everyone in my family loves cheese. It is always a perfect snack or appetizer, and I always have it in my fridge. Once in a while, we all crave something different from ordinary, that’s when I try to recreate our restaurant favorites at home. Don’t get me wrong, I love restaurants, good ones, but those are for special occasions. We had to say “NO” to all fast foods, and satisfy all our cravings with healthier choices. Homemade Mozzarella Cheese Sticks are perfect, and just hit the spot. Serve them with warm marinara sauce and fresh parsley as a snack or an appetizer on weekdays or weekends. With some planning, it only takes minutes to prepare.
Ingredients:
- 12 mozzarella sticks
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 7-8 tablespoons Italian bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 2 eggs (1 egg is pictured, but I ended up using 2 eggs)
- coconut oil for frying
- marinara sauce and fresh parsley for dipping (optional)
For better results, and for preventing cheese from melting while frying, I freeze cheese sticks before cooking. Also, I like to cut them in half for easier grip, but its up to you.
Roll frozen mozzarella sticks in flour.
In a small dish, with fork, beat eggs. In a different dish, mix Italian crumbs with dried parsley.
Now, dip cheese sticks in egg, then coat in crumbs. Then repeat, dip again in egg, and then in crumbs. Place mozzarella sticks on waxed paper, and freeze for 10-15 minutes.
Over medium heat, melt about 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Fry cheese sticks on each side until golden. Add more oil if needed.
Enjoy with marinara sauce on the side.

These little guys are so cute and perfect! Look delicious!!!
Thank you so much, Diana.
Can I use regular oil? Looks good!
Thank you, Tatyana. Yes, you can use regular oil. Vegetable and Canola oils are good for frying, just not as healthy as Coconut Oil.
So good! Thank you!
You’re welcome, Tanya 🙂
I’m sure you daughters love them. One of those foods that, once you start, you can’t stop eating.
Oh we all love them! These Mozzarella cheese sticks were gone within minutes, and the kids were asking for more.
You have a beautiful blog
Welcome Dimple! Thank you so much for your nice words. I’m heading over to check your blog as well 😉
Mmmmm yummmm luv mozzarella sticks 1 of my favorite app things to order from a restaurant made once a long time ago but yo I’ll hafta try this recipe never knew about freezing them before cooking how long approximately and also would this work frying in peanut or grapeseed oil and a little butter wow my mouth is watering right now hun
I freeze cheese to prevent it from melting while frying it, for about half hour or so. The healthier choice for oil would be avocado oil, which is perfect for high temperature cooking. Other oils might not give you that beautiful crust, or by the time you achieve golden crust, the cheese will be melted. I recommend avocado or coconut oil.
Sure will definitely keep that in mind freezing time half an hour or maybe more I’ll use avocado oil bc I’m allergic to coconut love that golden crust gotta have that gurl lol
